Klädesholmen, West Sweden – October 2015
Klädesholmen is a tiny island and village in Tjörn municipality, Bohuslän, Sweden. Established as a fishing community in the 15th century, the village owes its existence to the herring industry and many herring salting-houses and canneries were built in the golden age of herring in the latter half of the 18th century. Today, production is concentrated to one company, Klädesholmen Seafood AB, which produces almost half of all Swedish pickled herring, under various brand names. Its serene coastal setting and pretty clapboard houses makes it a great destination for a day-trip from Gothenburg – make sure to try the Sunday lunch at Salt & Sill restaurant which features at least 6 different types of pickled herring!
