Coca-Cola crate man, Cape Town, South Africa – March 2013
“Elliot” is a much-loved giant statue made from 4,200 recycled Coca-Cola crates in the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town. The 20m tall, 27-ton statue was designed by Porky Hefer Design to draw attention to the ever-increasing importance of recycling both cans and plastic bottles. Apart from being a fun and iconic addition to the Cape Town skyline, the structure also sports signs to educate the public on the importance of recycling. This is just one of Coca-Cola’s important recycling projects in South Africa, which also include PETCO (a plastic recycling programme) and Collect-a-Can (a project that rewards people for recycling their aluminium cans).
