Poppy – June 2009
I love their cheerful scarlet faces. I love the way the delicate flowerheads droop when a heavy honeybee alights on them looking for pollen. I love their elegant, swan-necked buds. I love their crinkly crepe paper-textured petals that straighten out as soon as they burst free of the bud. And I love that they seed themselves and provide splashes of colour where almost nothing else wants to grow.
