Crocus – London, March 2010
There comes a point in every winter when you think you can’t take it any more – the waking up in the dark, the frozen toes in bed at night, the kitchen like a steamy sauna every time you boil rice, the bare branches silhouetted against a relentlessly grey sky. But then one morning you step outside to find that the frozen earth has miraculously sprouted purple crocus flowers, and you know that the end is in sight. And that makes everything better.
