Everybody loves a winner. They get the gold medals. They get to stand at the top of the podium. They have songs written about them. It’s a good thing we love them – because I am about to announce 35 of them!
Thanks to the great generosity that you have shown by donating fabulous prizes; by blogging, Tweeting and Facebooking about the raffle; and by buying tickets, the H2Ope for Haiti campaign has raised £959 in just two weeks – and the total will be £1,259 once my lovely employer adds their contribution (they match employees’ charity fundraising up to £300 per year). That’s a whopping $1,886 or €1,387 or R13,963! The money goes to Concern Worldwide who have been working tirelessly in Haiti to help those whose lives have been destroyed by the January earthquake.
It’s now nearly two months since the earthquake hit Haiti and an estimated 700,000 people are living in make-shift shelters. Concern is focusing most of its emergency response on water and sanitation in two areas in Port-au-Prince – one of the first steps was the installation of a 10,000 litre water bladder in one of the settlements. Click here to view a video of Jocelyn and her family who are among the thousands of families displaced by the earthquake. Life is hard for them, but the assistance they are receiving from Concern is helping them cope. The funds that you helped to raise will mean that Concern is able to offer assistance to more people for longer and to help people rebuild their lives.
And now, on to the winners! (In case you are wondering, I put each entry onto a spreadsheet and assigned it a unique number as it arrived, and then used the true random number service at www.random.org to pick a random winner number for each prize). I have listed each prize with its prize code, and the name of the winner below it. I will be contacting all the donors and winners to put them in touch with each other over the next few days, so please be patient if you do not hear from your prize donor immediately.
