Double helix reflection – London 2006
It seems there is nowhere in central London these days that you can point a camera and not have an ugly yellow crane in your shot: everything is being renovated or rebuilt. But to rebuild, you first need to break down. This beautiful spiral staircase on Cheapside was visible only for a few short months after they had broken down the building that hid it, and before they built its replacement. Now the staircase and its reflection are hidden once again but live on in my memory – and in this photo.
